Laura Vukobratović

Born in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, Laura Vukobratović began her training as a trumpeter with Prof. Kovacs Kalman at the conservatory in her hometown. From 1995 to 2001, she was in the master class of Professor Reinhold Friedrich at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe. At the age of 18, Laura Vukobratović became principal trumpet at the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad. In 1994, she received a lecturer position at the local Academy of Music.

Twice she won the “National Competition of Young Talents” in her home country before being awarded the German DAAD Prize in 1999.  During this time she attended master classes with Maurice André and Guy Touvron.

Laura Vukobratović is a much sought-after soloist. In recent years, engagements have taken her throughout Europe and to South America. As a soloist, she has worked with internationally renowned orchestras, including the German Chamber Orchestra Berlin, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Ludwigsburg Festival, the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the RSO Bucharest, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, the SWR Radio Orchestra Kaiserslautern, the Munich Bach Soloists and the Bach Collegium Munich. For the 2002/03 season she was principal trumpet in the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg, and since 2003 she has been principal trumpet in the orchestra of the National Theater in Mannheim. During this time she has worked with conductors such as Adam Fischer, Christoph Eschenbach, Herbert Blomstedt, Kent Nagano, Micheal Tilson Thomas, Stefan Soltesz, Michael Gielen, Philippe Herreweghe, Sylvain Cambreling and Claudio Abbado. She also appears regularly with orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the SWR Baden-Baden/Freiburg Symphony Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the RSO Frankfurt and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders.

In 2005 she began teaching at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe. In addition to her busy concert schedule as a soloist, Laura Vukobratović is particularly devoted to chamber music, which has led to collaborations with the Linos Ensemble, Lucerne Brass, “Ensemble Aventure”, hr-brass and bach, blech & blues. Laura Vukobratović’s diverse repertoire ranges from music of the 17th and 18th centuries to the modern era. As soloist of the second Brandenburg Concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach, she is as successful on the piccolo trumpet as on the natural trumpet. This is evidenced not least by numerous concert recordings and CD recordings.

In 2013 she followed an appointment as professor at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
